Community clean-up
  • Trailblazers and Jr. Bobcats recruit community volunteers for neighborhood clean-ups
  • In 2006, Trailblazers, Jr. Bobcats and their volunteers collected and properly disposed of two tons of trash. In 2007, they exceeded their previous total by one-half ton
  • Barbecue lunch sponsored by Merced Code Enforcement
  • Fun and games with mentors and mentees

Summer program
  • Build on and improve Jr. Bobcats’ academic skills and knowledge
  • Build positive relationships between mentors and mentees through one-on-one mentorship
  • Present classroom activities for science, math and literacy
  • Engage mentors and mentees in outdoor activities, such as sports, field trips, fishing and hiking

Halloween event
  • Mentors design and supervise safe indoor activities, such as academic relays and obstacle courses. At the end of each physical obstacle course section, children solve mathematical equations or spell a word
  • Children receive awards for participation; everyone who participates is a winner
  • Costume contests
  • Pumpkin painting
  • Gingerbread house-building

Holiday with the Kids
  • Mentors solicit and collect gift donations for youth from the UC Merced community and general public.
  • Caroling with mentors, mentees and performances by UC Merced Flo student choir
  • Gift distribution
