Welcome to the UC Merced Police Department Mentors Program
About the program
• Mission Statement
The mission of the UCMPD Mentor Program is to empower at-risk youth in our community to make positive life choices that enable them to maximize their personal potential through community service, outreach and academic opportunities.
• Program goals
The ultimate goal of the UCMPD Mentor Program is to provide strong, healthy relationships and a safe environment for area youth by filling the void that criminal street gangs and other negative outside influences often replace, thereby, undercutting local gang recruitment.
The program addresses educational needs and quality-of-life issues faced by the youth of an underserved population of Merced County.
The program will guide fourth-grade students in learning discipline, respect, responsibility and accountability through the mentorship of successful UC students and caring community members.
It is the desire of the UCMPD Mentor Program and the UC community to establish a partnership with local non-profit and county agencies firmly grounded in a commitment to successfully enable area youth to become productive future community members and leaders.
The dream of an education can become a reality for a child. Challenge a child’s mind, change a child’s life, give some time, have a care and help make the dream come true.
